Established in 1988, Southern Jewelry News is currently in its 23rd year of publication, and is the only trade newspaper dedicated to the Southern jewelry industry. About Mid-America Jewelry News

Mid-America Jewelry News was started in 2002 after repeated requests from our advertisers and readers to bring the regional, down-home news format of Southern Jewelry News to other parts of the country. Now in it's 8th full year of publication, over 8,000 readers look forward to receiving Mid-America Jewelry News every month.



Staff


newnams_smallBill Newnam is the co-owner and editor-in-chief of Southern Jewelry News and Mid-America Jewelry News. He is a 1989 graduate of the University of North Carolina - Greensboro.

Bill began working in the jewelry industry in 1987 for a manufacturer of colored stone and diamond jewelry and engravable giftware. In 1992 he was promoted to national sales manager of that organization.

In February 2000 Bill and his partner, Chris Smith, purchased Southern Jewelry News from Elizabeth Curtis. In October 2001 the pair started Mid-America Jewelry News to make their style of down-home jewelry news available to jewelers in America's Heartland.

Bill and his wife, Tina, married in 1993. They have one son, Paul, and a retired racing greyhound named Vegas Alley. In his spare time Bill enjoys spending time with his family, reading and sports, particularly golf.

Bill is a member of the Southern Jewelry Travelers Association and the 24 Karat Club Southeastern United States where he serves on the Board of Directors.

Chris Smith is the President and publisher of Southern Jewelry News and Mid-America Jewelry News. He graduated from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science.

Chris' background in the industry includes employment as purchasing manager for a jewelry and giftware manufacturing firm. In February 2000 Chris and his partner, Bill Newnam, purchased Southern Jewelry News from Elizabeth Curtis. In October 2001 the pair started Mid-America Jewelry News to make their style of down-home jewelry news available to jewelers in America's Heartland. Chris is a member of the North Carolina Jewelers Association.

Chris and his wife, Carol, have been married since 1994. They have two children, Nate and Katie, and an Australian Shepard named Copper. Chris spends his spare time with his family traveling, exercising, and getting outdoors.

 


elesaElesa Dillon is the national sales manager for Southern Jewelry News and Mid-America Jewelry News. She joined the company in January 2002.


Elesa has been in the jewelry industry for 25 years and her experience includes working in retail, and with a manufacturer/wholesaler, where she was involved in virtually every aspect of the business.
She is a member of the Southern Jewelry Travelers Association, North Carolina Jewelers Association, Women's Jewelers Association, and she serves on the vendor advisory council with the Retail Jewelers Organization.

Elesa is a second-generation jewelry professional, and owes her passion for the industry to her mentor; her late father Paul Brandenburg.

Elesa's personal time revolves around her husband and two boys. Elesa enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling and volunteering.


martha_smallMartha Osswald is the office manager for Southern Jewelry News and Mid-America Jewelry News.  She is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 2005.

Martha's personal time involves spending time with her family, friends, dogs, Ireland and Bear and her cat, Pancake.

 

 

 


liebman_smallMarilyn Liebman joined Southern and Mid-America Jewelry News as northeastern sales representative in January 2010. Liebman brings with her 10 years of industry experience as a sales representative with MJSA Journal (formerly AJM Magazine).

Marilyn began her working career teaching elementary school. After 31 years she retired from teaching and went in search of her dream job, “to go on the road with a line.” With husband Steve in the jewelry industry this was not difficult and she soon found herself representing several lines.

It was then that Linda Zimmer introduced Marilyn to the Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA), and along with several other members, they started the successful “Chew, Chat & Chill” dinners that ultimately evolved into the WJA Metropolitan Chapter.

Marilyn has served on the WJA National Board and as treasurer of the Metropolitan Chapter as well as serving as Past President of The Golden Circle Club of NY.

Martha Osswald is the office manager for Southern Jewelry News and Mid-America Jewelry News. She is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 2005.

Martha's personal time involves spending time with her family, friends, dogs, Ireland and Bear and her cat, Pancake.
