RJO members buy with “Mile High Style”

Another successful Buying Show for RJO means big benefits for members

(DENVER) - In early August, the Retail Jewelers Organization (RJO) brought together over 1,200 members and vendors for their semi-annual buying show. This year’s theme was Mile High Style, and it was one to remember.

Attendees enjoyed the new Friday Evening Kick-Off Reception complete with a DJ (one of RJO’s very own, Chip Stone, Stonecraft Jewelers), plenty of catching up with old friends, and even some vendors in costume. “This event was a nice way to get things rolling and get a sneak preview of vendors’ merchandise,” said a member who cited the reception as one of the most valuable events of the show. “It gave me a chance to meet lots of other jewelers before the show started.”

Also new to the buying show was the RJO Brain Gain Breakouts facilitated by members of RJO’s leadership committees to help each store bring back new and exciting ideas that have worked for others in the industry.

One of the highlights was when CEO Sarah Streb presented the Board of Director’s Award to Liz Schlauch of Barany Jewelers in Medina, OH. Her work with RJO has distinguished her as a vital part of a group which continues to thrive year after year. While thanking the group for her recognition, Liz said, “Being recognized for your efforts so eloquently is beyond words. Thank you RJO for making this the most beautiful experience in my professional life. This award will be dearly cherished.”

Along with the Board of Directors Award, RJO recognized its 2017 outstanding vendors. 2017 Vendor of the Year recipients included Ostbye as well as Allison-Kaufman for Finished Goods, RDI Diamonds for Loose Goods, Citizen Watch Co. for Clocks/Watches and The EDGE in the Service/Specialty category.

As with every RJO show, the excitement was palpable on the show floor. For RJO retail members there were many opportunities to learn, network, and win. In the Idea Center, Kate Peterson (Performance Concepts), Shane O’Neill (Fruchtman Marketing), and Sarah Yood (Jewelers Vigilance Committee) were meeting with members one on one to help them address their individual store needs. Jim Grot (Grot Imaging) was capturing photos of stores with a beautiful tiara for their own personalized press release. And 56 purchase vouchers were given away in amounts of up to $1,000 in RJO’s Purchase Voucher Frenzy.

RJO vendor members were also feeling the excitement. One of RJO’s newest vendors even ran out of order forms. Alisa Bunger of ELLE posted on Facebook, “Thank you to everyone involved in this year’s show! From the RJO staff to the retailers and other vendors we met, it was an amazing experience as always. Special thank you to our retail partners for a record show!”

For RJO Members who couldn’t make the show, there were still plenty of opportunities to get involved with the weekend. Jon Schallert’s incredible keynote was live streamed on the RJO Exclusive Facebook page which was seen by over 100 more members. It allowed those members with smaller stores who can only make one show a year to take advantage of one of the many educational opportunities RJO has to offer at their shows. RJO prides itself on providing all their stores the same educational and networking opportunities regardless of size.

The next RJO Buying Show will be January 20th - 22nd in Savannah, GA. #seeyouinsavannah
