Women’s Jewelry Association announces student scholarship winners for 2010

The Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) Scholarship Committee has awarded $20,000 in scholarships to six students. Funds for the scholarships are generated through donations and purchases during the Silent Auction held in conjunction with WJA’s Awards for Excellence Gala. This year, the gala was held on July 26 at Pier 60 in New York City.

Lewis Jewelers named “Official Jeweler” of the Houston Astros

(HOUSTON) – Lewis Jewelers, a full-service jewelry retailer located in Webster, Texas, has entered into a sponsorship agreement with the Houston Astros. As “Official Jeweler of the Houston Astros,” Lewis Jewelers will also be participating in several sponsorship opportunities and events throughout the year.

Jewelers Mutual honors Tennessee-based insurance company

(NEENAH, Wis.) – Hyde & O’Dell Insurance Services of Bristol, Tennessee earned the designation of Centerstone Circle with Neenah, Wisconsin-based insurer, Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company.

AGS names Cathy Calhoun Board President

(LAS VEGAS) – The American Gem Society (AGS) has announced that Cathy Calhoun, Certified Gemologist Appraiser (CGA), is the new president of the Society’s Board of Directors. Calhoun, who owns and operates Calhoun Jewelers in Royersford, Pennsylvania, will hold the title of Board President until 2012 when her term ends at the annual Conclave.

JCK Design Center Retailer Awards winners announced

Eight ‘Rising Star’ designers debut at Las Vegas Show

(NORWALK, Conn.) - The Design Center at JCK Las Vegas announced its Top 50 retailer choices for 2010/2011 at the fifth annual JCK Designer Retailer Awards ceremony held recently. The recipient of the top JCK Events Designer Retailer Award is DBS Jewelers, St. Michaels, MD.

Bill Wismar wins Best of Show in Alabama Jewelers Association Design Contest

The Alabama Jewelers Association (AJA) announced the winners of its annual Design Competition conducted during the Alabama/Georgia Jewelers Associations’ joint Convention held recently in Sandestin, Florida.

Bill Wismar of Metal Benders in Mobile, Alabama was named Best of Show, as well as the People’s Choice Award winner for his hand-fabricated platinum necklace with matching chain, a 16.70 carat crystal opal, and 1.50 carats of diamonds.
