Brisk business reported at SJO August 2008 Buying Show

Reports from Charlotte, North Carolina indicate a great buying experience was had by all at the Southeastern Jewelers Organization, Inc. (SJO) August Show. The event was held at the luxurious Ballantyne Resort and Spa over the weekend of August 24th through the 26th. Vendors reported very heavy buying from existing and new members and were delighted with the strength of the buying power by all attendees.

Top independent jewelers, world renowned vendors “Rock On” at RJO Fall Buying Show

Top independent jewelers and distinguished vendors from around the nation attended the exclusive Fall 2008 Retail Jewelers Organization (RJO) Buying Show in Minneapolis, Minnesota in late July.

The RJO Buying Show, held semi-annually, offered seminars and continuing education opportunities on several topics including best business practices, customized marketing, effective jewelry display and personal motivation. The show also provided independent jewelers the opportunity to talk to industry leaders, view the latest trends and purchase jewelry at pre-negotiated prices from some of the most recognized vendors in the industry.

Jewelers for Children pledges $3,070,000 to charity partners

Jewelers for Children has announced that $3,070,000 has been committed to the organization’s charity partners in the year ahead. The announcement came at the organization’s 10th annual Facets of Hope celebration held on June 1, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV. The organization recognized Allen Brill, president and CEO of Rolex Watch USA, Inc. and Peter Engel, president and CEO of Fred Meyer Jewelers as honorees for the year.

David Henry Mosier: 1944 – 2008

David Henry Mosier, Sr., passed away at his home in Raleigh, NC on August 29, 2008 at the age of 64. Dave began working in the jewelry industry at the age of 18. He had a long and successful career in the industry including owner of M&M Jewelers, Inc., vice president with Longines Wittnauer, president of the Eastern Jewelers Travelers Association and a member of the North Carolina Jewelers Association board of directors.

Veteran jewelry industry journalist Roy Conradi went prospecting for the “big one” in Canada before the recent SJTA show. To prove it wasn’t just another fish story he sent us this picture of his trophy fish - a 38”, 17 pound Northern Pike.

Silver Institute to launch “Silver Marketing Initiative”

The Silver Institute announced that it will launch a consumer-marketing element as part of its wide range of industry programs. The "Silver Marketing Initiative" (SMI) will combine a media and grassroots campaign to increase awareness and encourage consumer purchases of sterling silver jewelry. It will also educate the consumer and trade press on sterling silver and be a source of market information and product news on sterling silver.
