10+ jewelry website boo-boos that hurt your Google visibility

Guy Pineda by Guy Pineda

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Pineda GoogleMany jewelers are still perplexed about how their jewelry websites could help them boost sales.

Some think they already knew the whole drill, only to be surprised that they have committed self-sabotaging mistakes that significantly impacted their Google ranks.

Are you guilty of these website management blunders, too?

#1 Not Creating a Jewelry Blog

Some jewelers argue that all they need is an online shop to sell jewelry. While this is true, a jewelry blog also contributes to improved sales by promoting the store’s presence online.

Quick Fix: Plan your blog content thoroughly and ensure that customers will find your content invaluable.

#2 Not Optimizing Your Content for Google Visibility

And worse, not believing in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) at all! Appearing on Google’s first page is not a magic trick. There is a science behind it. So, have a little faith.

Quick Fix: Install SEO plug-ins such as Yoast that will guide you on modifying your content for SEO purposes.

#3 Ignoring Speed Issues

There are no sluggish websites – only unsuspecting website owners. Google algorithm teaches us not to tolerate this by penalizing sites that don’t perform well.

Quick Fix: Resize icons, photos, and videos on your jewelry website to their minimum size of about 70 to 100KB without sacrificing quality

#4 Uploading Repeat Content

Unfortunately, some website owners neglect their responsibility to provide relevant content to their visitors. Instead, they fall into the trap of repeating their content, hoping that Google will not notice.

Quick Fix: Create unique Meta tags that will distinguish one post from another.

#5 Giving H1 Tags the cold shoulder

Some folks are so obsessed with creating content they forget about the title. To make things more complicated, they also overlooked heading and subheading tags in their blogs, hurting their SEO rankings without even knowing it.

Quick Fix: Ensure that only titles are tagged as H1 on the source code.

#6 Not Giving Credits to Where It is Due

Sometimes, it’s nice to compare notes from our previous posts or other sites. We can’t help it, and that’s okay. What impedes high google rankings is owning what’s not ours and providing unnecessary links.

Quick Fix: Link to authority sites as much as possible and test whether internal links are working.

#7 Not Understanding Error Messages

Have you ever seen those pesky HTTP errors? While they seem technical, some of these HTTP errors are pretty simple, and yet they remain unresolved simply because the thought of an error is already scary as it is.

Quick Fix: Conquer your fears by familiarizing yourself with common HTTP errors and ways to fix website issues that accompany them.

#8 Underestimating Strong Call-to-Action Statements

A strong call-to-action statement tells your customers to buy jewelry items without telling them to purchase the items. It sounds crazy, but it works!

Quick Fix: Provide digital freebies such as an e-book or a PDF guide to entice your clients to respond to your call-to-action statements.

#9 Assuming Visitors Know How to Reach You

Because they don’t. Or maybe they do, but they still won’t because it’s quite a hassle.

Quick Fix: Add your contact details in a conspicuous place on your online page (i.e., on the top part of your website)

#10 Being Overly Conscious of Rankings

Sometimes we tend to overdo things and overthink. Self-awareness is vital to improvement, but being paranoid is just self-destructive.

Quick Fix: Support your SEO practices with facts and evidence. When in doubt, focus on providing immense value to your users.

#11 Not Maintaining Your Website

Most business owners succumb to the success of their SEO efforts and forget what they started. It’s alright to celebrate victories, but don’t be complacent.

Quick Fix:

Conduct regular SEO audits and address issues one problem at a time.

Final Thoughts

Website management mistakes happen, and there’s no other way to get around it but to go through it. If you’re not sure about websites, a reputable SEO agency will surely be happy to help your jewelry business flourish in the online world.
