Scholarships available for JA Bench Professional Certification

Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company sponsors scholarships that cover 80% of materials fees

(NEW YORK) - Jewelers of America (JA), the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewelry retail marketplace, has announced that scholarships are available for its nationally recognized Bench Professional Certification program. The scholarships are provided through the generous sponsorship of Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, an industry partner of JA. The Jewelers Mutual Bench Professional Certification Scholarship funds approximately 80% of the exam materials fees, which can save applicants several hundred to thousands of dollars.

This cost-savings gives jewelers greater access to JA’s Bench Professional Certification credentials, which distinguish bench jewelers and their employers by assessing their bench skills and proficiency at four skill levels. While JA’s Bench Professional Certification program is open to all bench jewelry professionals, the scholarships are available only to employees of JA-member companies. JA members can download the Scholarship Application, by visiting www.jewelers.org > “Education & Training” > “Scholarships.”

For more than a decade, JA’s Bench Professional Certification program has validated and promoted the status and expertise of jewelry arts professionals. Last year, after an extensive two-year review process, JA re-launched the program to reflect the standards of modern bench jewelers. The program now features updated tests that reflect bench best practices; natural gemstones in several tests; faster certification turnaround; and a more affordable fee structure thanks to fulfillment partner, Stuller, Inc.

The certification process is straightforward - applicants must take and pass a written test and a series of practical tests. All testing can be done at the applicant’s own bench and at his/her own schedule.

Full details and sample exams are available at www.jewelers.org > “Education & Training” > “Certification.” The savings members receive on the certification program more than cover the cost of JA membership.
