Gems, Gems, Gems! Color is Hot for 2016

Stunning color! Look for it this year. This strong trend continues to flourish. We’ve asked cutting-edge designers what trends they’re seeing and they’ve spoken!

Frank Reubel, known for his clean, modern designs favored by the contemporary woman, weighs in. “2016 is all about color – vibrant colors. Clients are looking beyond the normal gemstones and into unique, rare, hard-to-find styles that really make a stand-out statement. We design one-of-a-kind pieces with stones that accent today’s modern woman.”

Mia Reubel

Your customers are increasingly savvy and sophisticated. They’re looking for something special and distinctive. Unusual, beautiful gems such as paraiba tourmaline, tsavorite and opal, morganite, spinel or rutilated quartz capture their imagination. A client searching for a December birthstone may be considering tanzanite, turquoise or zircon. Diamonds? Gone are the days when white, brilliant cuts were the only option. Look for colored diamonds and unusual shapes including slices and uncut gems.

Mia Crevoshay

To accentuate these exceptional gems designers are offering one-of-a-kind distinctive settings to highlight their unique beauty. Paula Crevoshay, the “Queen of Color,” is known for her stunning museum quality designs that enhance the natural beauty of her exceptional gems. Her “Light of the Nile” bracelet showcases the “inseparable stream of creation: the faceted Ethiopian opals, punctuated by glowing green tsavorites, seem to merge light with the water, scintillating like the sun on the surface of the Nile.  As the water flows through the landscape, the light dances with it in delicate and joyous unison, singing the praises of abundance and grace.” She shares, “I am preparing new treasures for 2016 and anticipate that opals will continue to be strong because they can be worn with so many colors… Pink will also be a good bet. I’m working with more extreme colors to introduce in Tucson and at Couture. Come and see! I’m very excited!”

Mia Dawes

Jennifer Dawes offers fresh, natural, eco-conscious gems and metals in her award-winning designs for the discerning client. She sees “three stone rings making a resurgence in 2016, taking over the halo trend. Three stones and solitaires will be bold with geometric and classic shapes.  And a  lot of color!  Blues, greens, nudes…”

Mia Bordia

Puja Bordia of Tresor offers intricate, refined and fashion-conscious design with exquisite gems and detail. For 2016 she sees a “softer color palette. We’re hoping to see lots of morganite, sapphires, coral and moonstone. Look for lots of layering and long necklaces, big ear studs, bangle bracelets, stacking rings and big cocktail rings!”

Explore the rich beauty of the wonderful world of gems and captivate your clientele with their bounty. The sky’s the limit!
