The New Year is here and with each New Year comes new opportunities for salespeople and sales managers. The past year, good or bad, is gone. If you had a good 2011, then you look to build on your success and make 2012 even better. If 2011 was not one of your better years, then it’s time to put that behind you and move on to better things in 2012.

It doesn’t matter what category you find yourself in as we begin the New Year because it is a great time to review where you are, what works and where you can improve. Further, I believe it is a great time to renew our commitments to ourselves and to the job at hand. Therefore, this month I thought I would share with you my Top 10 New Years Resolutions for both salespeople and sales managers.

I hope you enjoy them and take them to heart. Make these resolutions your resolutions. It won’t be easy, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy. I know that the upcoming year will be one of the best on record. With hard-work, self-determination, conviction, and working everyday to improve you can’t help but grow your career and your level of accomplishments.

Top 10 New Years Resolutions For Salespeople!

  1. I will set goals and constantly work to improve my productivity.
  2. I will strive to develop a personal trade relationship with all customers.
  3. I will deliver the finest customer service possible.
  4. I will attempt to close every sale once merchandise has been shown.
  5. I will attempt to add-on to every customer in a non-pushy and aggressive manner.
  6. I will work to increase my knowledge in sales techniques, product knowledge, customer service, and operational skills.
  7. I will be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
  8. I will look at my job as building a business within a business and look for opportunities to grow the business.
  9. I will take responsibility for my own success.
  10. I will treat my customers, co-workers and supervisors with respect and dignity, as I want to be treated.

Top 10 Resolutions For Owners/Sales Managers!

  1. I will set goals and constantly work to improve the productivity of my staff.
  2. I will strive to give my people help, not hell, through devoting time to each individual.
  3. I will manage based on objective information rather than subjective information.
  4. I will become a better listener, communicator and motivator.
  5. I will conduct weekly sales staff meetings focusing on sales techniques, product knowledge, operations, customer service, and recognition of accomplishments.
  6. I will listen in on sales presentations and offer constructive coaching.
  7. I will make training a process rather than an event.
  8. I create an environment of personal growth and development.
  9. I will adhere to my responsibilities of providing the leadership, knowledge, training, incentives, and consequences in order to recruit, hire, develop, and maintain successful salespeople.
  10. I will provide positive reinforcement at least ten to one over negative criticism.

I hope you all have a very happy & prosperous New Year!
