Georgia Jewelers Design Competition 2012


Marietta, Georgia jeweler Johnny Johnson has won the Best of Show category in the Georgia Jewelers Association Annual Jewelry Design Contest for the second time in the past three years. Held recently at the Callaway Garden Resort and Spa in Pine Mountain, GA the design contest took place March 18th during the Association’s annual Convention.

Johnny Johnson, Edward-Johns Jewelers, took Best of Show honors at the Georgia Jewelers Association’s 2012 Design Competition with these earrings.
Johnson, owner of Edward-Johns Jewelers in Marietta, GA took top billing with his winning design - a pair of pink tourmaline, peridot, and diamond earrings.  Held during the group’s yearly Convention, the competition winners were announced at Sunday’s Member’s Luncheon. Johnson last won the Best of Show in 2010.

The winning piece will be entered in the 2013 Torch Awards design competition hosted by the Atlanta Jewelry Show next March at the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta.

Paul Henriques of JWR Jewelers in Athens, Georgia took the People’s Choice award with an opal, diamond and sapphire pendant.

Held this year during the Alabama and Georgia Jewelers Associations 4th annual co-hosted Convention in Pine Mountain, judges for the event and members from both states had many fine pieces from which to choose. Alabama hosted its own competition as well as a student competition from Mobile, Alabama-based Bishop State College’s Jewelry Department.

Now is not too soon for Georgia-based jewelers to begin design plans for their 2013 entries. The competition is open to all GJA member stores, their employees and affiliated students.
