Guy Harvey Jewelry by NAUTORA featured throughout Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition

Our friends at NAUTORA, a division of StarCraft Diamonds Inc., recently found themselves amid a virtual ‘sea’ of media attention when their exclusive Guy Harvey jewelry line was featured on not one but FIVE Sports Illustrated swimsuit models in the 2010 SI Swimsuit Edition, including 2010’s cover model, Brooklyn Decker. (Yes, we recommend you pick up an issue for ‘work’ purposes.)

The Guy Harvey jewelry line replicates the renowned artwork of marine life artist and biologist Dr. Harvey.

The Guy Harvey jewelry line, which replicates the renowned artwork of marine life artist and biologist Dr. Harvey, is a little over two years old and has been widely popular among retailers across the country. Products range from 18 karat gold medallions (like the ones featured in SI) to sterling silver earrings. Hard fired enamel adorns several exotic sterling silver medallions while rings, earrings, bracelets, key rings and cuff links boldly feature every exquisite detail of Harvey’s most famous pieces of art.

And if superb quality and craftsmanship aren’t enough to get you to take a look at the line, a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model will surely do the trick. At least that’s what Margaret Fortescue, Managing Director at NAUTORA, is hoping for:

“Not only are we thrilled with this opportunity for mass international exposure, but we are even more excited about being able to direct this new-found attention to Guy Harvey’s Ocean Foundation, an organization focused on the conservation of our marine life and their habitats,” said Fortescue.

Being seen by 65 million SI subscribers is undeniably the best thing that could happen to any jewelry line, old or new. But it didn’t happen by chance. The folks at NAUTORA contacted the editors of SI in February 2009 to find out if they were interested in taking a look at the line. SI choose 30 pieces to take on the four different photo shoots, but would not commit to NAUTORA, nor to any of the other 200 jewelry designers who submitted samples, whether their products would be used. That decision was left up to the fashion designers and was usually made the day of the shoot.

Models wearing Guy Harvey jewelry in Sports Illustrated include (l-r) Anne V, Jessica White and cover model Brooklyn Decker.

With a multitude of different jewelry designers to choose from, the SI team undoubtedly had their hands full trying to sift through the endless possibilities.

Meanwhile, back in the states, the NAUTORA team simply hoped to be featured in one shot, if any. Hoping for anything more would be a dream come true.

Not until January of 2010 did they realize their Guy Harvey line had been chosen.

“When we got the call from SI asking how we wanted to be credited in the magazine we knew we had at least one shot with our Guy Harvey line. Now that the issue is out we know they used our line in seven primary shots and additional countless appearances in the magazine,” recalls Fortescue.

For those of you who have the Swimsuit Edition handy, pay close attention (as if you weren’t already) to Jessica White, Brooklyn Decker, Anne V, Bar Rafaeli and Christine Teigen. All five ladies are wearing a Guy Harvey piece. For those without a copy and who like immediate gratification, simply zip on over to www.guyharveyjewelry.com/press/sportsillustrated.html to catch a glimpse of the girls sporting the line.

“We are most excited about this opportunity for our existing and future retailers.  Our dealers are really using this mass media coverage to create a buzz in their town.  Having one of the hottest accessories of the season in your jewelry store is a huge plus for them in this economy.  I’m glad we can provide our customers with this type of good news that benefits the both of us,” said Fortescue.

With new items to offer like their latest trademarked offering, Trophy Slides™, in 17 different designs, their options will continue to boggle the mind. A Trophy Slide™ with Harvey’s art on one side and the Ocean Foundation’s logo on the other is the perfect choice, especially at a starting price of $59.99 retail.  The concept is for the wearer to create a collection of their catches including Marlin, Sailfish, King Mackerel, Tarpon and many other ocean conquests.  Trophy Slides™ may be worn on colored leather, neoprene, color cords or chain.

“Trophy Slides™ were introduced at the Miami International Boat Show and sales were amazing,” states Fortescue.  “We’ve picked the most popular Guy Harvey designs and put great effort into replicating them accurately.  As an artist, Dr. Harvey himself is continually impressed by how accurately we are able to replicate his actual work.”

Congratulations NAUTORA and StarCraft Diamonds!
