Say hello to lucky little Lucy. Lucy works with her human John Schrecker at J Schrecker Jewelry in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She is the fourth white fluffy employee there since 1989, following her predecessors Sherlock, Gulliver and Oliver. How she came to be in John’s life and store is quite a story:
Lucy and her brother Max entered a hotel lobby at 11 pm, in April 2016. After an extensive search in area hotels the owners could not be found. An assistant for one of the local vets was an advocate who helped find homes for small breed dogs. John’s neighbor’s daughter found out about the dogs and decided her recently widowed mom needed the company of a pet since she had also just lost her poodle to old age. After a week of trying to walk two dogs, neither of whom were house broken, she decided she needed to find another home for one of them. Enter John.
John was walking in his neighborhood one afternoon and ran into a neighbor walking her two new dogs. He stopped to meet the dogs and asked how things were going and she said she really needed to find a home for one of them. “Which one?” John asked. John told her he would love to have Lucy since his store dog Oliver was 16-years-old, had congestive heart failure and didn’t have long to live. Ginny handed John the leash, and the rest is history.
That was three years ago and “it’s been a love affair ever since for my wife and me, as well as the store employees and customers.”
I love a happy ending!
