Almod Diamonds Ltd., adds another Sight to their roster

Premium diamond retailer-manufacturer becomes DeBeers London Sightholder

(NEW YORK) - Almod Diamonds Ltd., announced their success in obtaining a new contract for 2012-2015 with the Diamond Trading Company (DTC). In addition to their sight in Namibia, Almod Diamonds now has a DeBeers London sight.

Albert Gad, president of Almod cites the growth of their own branded cut diamond, “We’ve taken great pride in working with local Namibians, training them to cut our premium diamond, the Crown of Light.”

Selected from a group of the industry’s top diamantaires, the new DTC London sight effective April 2012, signals both the company’s robust sales and their vision going forward. “A focus on branded goods is the way of the future,” Gad predicts.

Almod Diamonds is a global diamond manufacturer and retailing group with cutting factories in New York and Windhoek, Namibia. Almod Diamonds Namibia has a strong presence in Namibia where they have had a diamond sight since 2008.

The family owned company started with one retail store in the Caribbean twenty five years ago. Today, their retail division, Diamonds International is the most recommended store in the Caribbean, with over 130 luxury showrooms. Their closest competition by contrast has just 2 dozen retail stores in the Caribbean.

For the new contract, DeBeers selected 66 new sightholders, down from 77 in previous years; a reflection of increasingly limited rough supply. But the acquisition of the new site was a logical move for the company. Gad witnessed an uptick in demand for premium goods at his company’s retail stores. The strong sellers for Almod Diamonds at their Diamonds International showrooms throughout the Caribbean, Mexico and Alaskan ports of call are their branded stones like the Crown of Light, DeBeers Forevermark and others.

“The consumer has told us what they want,” Gad notes. Diamonds International creates a distinct business model by delivering a collection of branded stones, “and this sets us apart from similar retailers. The volume of sales we experience in this niche makes a powerful statement as to what diamond collectors want; and it’s not the deeply discounted diamonds they can find through online outlets.”
