The Welman Group significantly diversifies sterling silver line

(WASHINGTON, DC) - After twenty-eight years of focusing almost exclusively on sterling silver jewelry, The Welman Group, a jewelry wholesaler, based in Bethesda, MD has expanded its line to include stainless steel, “scratched zinc” and antiqued brass.

“With the price of silver eight to nine times higher than when the famous (infamous?) Hunt Brothers tried - unsuccessfully - to corner the silver market,” Welman Group owner, Chris Shorb, finally gave in to his customers’ requests to carry other, more affordable lines.

Growing weary of hearing, “Sterling silver jewelry is no longer affordable for stocking stuffers or my niece’s birthday present,” Chris put his traveling shoes back on, scoured international trade shows, and came back with three new lines.

“These three additions are really different than what we have been carrying and certainly are affordable with wholesale price points between two and twelve dollars.” Aware that stainless steel jewelry has become quite popular over the past few years, Chris is still surprised at how well his lines have been received. “Both the stainless steel and antiqued brass (The Tribal Collection) lines are doing great, but we really hit a home run with the new ‘scratched zinc’ line.” The new series, which is made of an iron/zinc alloy is plated in rhodium or gold tones and features earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and rings.

Of the antiqued brass line, Chris says, “Although not for everybody, the collection is so bizarre and unique, the stores that carry it are constantly reordering.” The Tribal Collection is a classic example of how The Welman Group is not afraid to try new ideas and pass them on to those “willing to take a chance and collect the winnings.”

Chris, who has never worn jewelry himself (aside from his twenty-year-old wedding band) is now sporting a Fleur-de-Lis ring from this line on his right hand. “It’s just fun,” he says. “With a response like this, I’m going to keep on traveling.”
