New ways for jewelers to learn at The SMART Jewelry Show Chicago

(CHICAGO) - The SMART Jewelry Show has announced several innovative education programs that are designed to help independent jewelry retailers learn new business ideas at the 2013 SMART Show, held at Chicago’s Navy Pier on April 13 - 15, 2013 (with the education conference beginning on April 12).

Smart-MarchNew programs include two Experience Areas, a bonus Q&A session with the show’s keynote speaker and courses from show partners - called “SMART Friends” - during the pre-show conference.

Experience Areas

Located on the show floor, Experience Areas host themed, concise sessions that give retailers actionable ideas without having to leave the buying area.

The INDESIGN Experience Area and the Gem and Appraisal Experience Area join the ever-popular Bench Challenge, Marketing, and Cool Stores Experience Areas this year.

The INDESIGN Experience Area is based on content from INDESIGN magazine, which specializes in fine and designer jewelry. Retailers can learn how to pick the right lines and get tips on advertising, in-store events, telling stories with display cases and more.

Sponsored by Janice Mack and Associates, the INDESIGN Experience Area is unique, as it’s tied in with the 50 vendors of fine jewelry in the INDESIGN and Generation Next Pavilions, making it easy for attendees to immediately put in to practice some of what they’ve just learned.

In the Gem and Appraisal Experience Area, Shane Decker joins experts from GemWorld International and GIA to teach jewelers how to correctly identify, appraise, and sell the stories of rubies, diamonds, alternative gems and more. Sponsored by the Diamond Council of America.

SMART Friends

During the full day of conferences on the day prior to the show floor opening, SMART Show partners are offering training options alongside the regularly scheduled sessions, including:

  • a full-day corundum treatments and pricing workshop from GemWorld International
  • Matrix training from Gemvision
  • digital marketing sessions from GemFind
  • testing for exams and certification from Jewelers of America

*Some sessions require reservations and payment in advance. Visit www.smartjewelryshow.com/education for more details.

Q&A with Martin Lindstrom

Trace Shelton, editor-in-chief of INDESIGN magazine, sits down with globally recognized marketing and branding expert Martin Lindstrom in a session titled “If I Owned a Jewelry Store” on Saturday, April 13. This bonus session is in addition to Martin’s keynote session. Seating is limited, and advance booking is required.
