Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) has announced their annual Tucson Gemological Conference and Gala, in-person and live-streaming, and you are invited to attend and participate.
The 2023 AGA Tucson Conference and Gala is scheduled for February 1, 2023, at the Tucson Marriott University Park Hotel in Tucson, AZ. The conference lineup features six gemological education presentations and three hands-on sessions from 8:30am to 4:30pm MST.
Covering a wide range of gemological subjects, presentations include master gem cutter Meg Berry, providing insight into the lapidary art of transforming gem rough to a “jewel”; Mark Cullinan, CEO of Cullinan Diamonds, talking about his family’s important history associated to diamond mining; a live-streamed interview with Alan Hodgkinson, Dr. Clemens Schwarzinger talking about the color and chemistry of zoisite; a discussion focused on digital photography of gemstones and jewelry led by Robert Weldon; and a peek into the future of trade shows with Gary Roskin. All gemological presentations will be live-streamed, recorded, and made available to virtual and in-person registrants when published by AGA.
Back by popular demand for in-person attendees, options for hands-on sessions include Jade Identification with Richard Hughes, Treasure from Trash (recycling gemstones) with Kerry Gregory, and Back to Black (identification of black stones) with Sarah Caldwell Steele.
Following the conference, the day caps off with the 2023 AGA Gala including a cocktail reception, followed by dinner, a silent auction, music, dancing, and the evening’s highlight – the presentation of the 2022 AGA Antonio C. Bonanno Award for Excellence in Gemology to recipient Gary Roskin. Roskin joins a distinguished group of only twenty-five recipients of this prestigious award.
AGA Conference Committee Co-chair, Dr. Çigdem Lüle shared: “We are excited to host the 2023 AGA Tucson Conference and the long-awaited opportunity to socialize and share our gemological experiences and knowledge. As an added benefit, this year AGA invites global participation by live-streaming this conference. We sincerely hope you will join us and bring a friend.”
