The Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) announced its fourth installment of the highly successful gemological career forum series, “What Can You Do with Your Gemology?”. The next forum topic and discussion will focus on careers in gem and jewelry photography and feature Orasa Weldon, Jeff Mason and Danny Sanchez as panelists. This free, interactive forum is open to anyone interested in gemology.
AGA Career Forums feature practicing gemologists in different professions, sharing insights into their paths to success and answering questions as attendees discover where their gemology might take them. Participants are encouraged to join in and learn more about their opportunities for a gemological career.
AGA invites all – gemologists and those considering a career in gemology – to register and participate. What Can You Do with Your Gemology – Part IV – Gem and Jewelry Photography is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 9:00 am (PDT) and will include the following gemologists as panelists:
Jeff Mason, GIA GG
Jeff Mason is a photographer and gemologist specializing in product and jewelry photography. With 20 years of industry experience, he brings his knowledge of gemstones and passion for photography together to properly represent gemstones and jewelry.
Danny Sanchez, GIA GG
Danny Sanchez is a Los Angeles based gemologist and artist, specializing in photomicrography. He’s a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, California and is self-taught in the art of photomicrography. Initially inspired by the Photoatlas of Inclusions in Gemstones by Eduard Gübelin and John Koivula, Danny’s images are thoughtfully created, leveraging his gemological knowledge through meticulously-tuned photography tools. His work has been shown at Art Basel Miami and publications include Cartier, Wired, Vice and Smithsonian Magazine.
Orasa Weldon, GIA GG
Orasa Weldon earned her gemology certificate at the AIGS – Asian Institute of Gemological Science, Bangkok, Thailand. She worked in the jewelry trade as a gemologist in Thailand and China. Weldon completed the Graduate Gemologist program at GIA in the USA. Later she earned a degree in graphic design from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia. She returned to Southern California where she combined her fine arts education with gemology, designing books and other publications for GIA and a variety of gem industry clients.
Her photography has appeared in Gems & Gemology, The Journal of Gemmology, InColor Magazine, Gemmology Today, The New York Times, and many more. She has also served as head judge for the Gem-A Photographer of the Year Competition, in the UK.
