Award winning gemologist/journalist Diana Jarrett explains all
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla.) – Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club near Sarasota, FL recently played host to the Opening Season Luncheon for the University Park Women’s Club. The event’s 2nd co-vice president Evelyn Cooper introduced gemologist and popular trade journalist Diana Jarrett who presented “Diamonds in Living Color” to a capacity crowd in the club’s sumptuous banquet hall.
Jarrett, an expert in the field of natural fancy color diamonds, has authored numerous trade reports on the topic of colorful diamonds, their origin and cause of color. But event attendees learned more of the interesting back-story on color diamonds, including some historically famous diamonds plus how the ‘red carpet effect’ has made colored diamonds popular with jewelry fans today. Videos of recent large diamond finds were especially appealing to the members, who enjoyed seeing crystals in their original shape prior to cutting. Jarrett’s slide presentation included a sampling from contemporary designers around the world who are creating collections with bold colorful diamonds to meet growing consumer demand.
The event kept the momentum going with a jewelry-themed raffle which included a handmade natural gem-slice necklace and a signed copy of Jarrett’s book, Cameos Old & New, 4th edition.
Cooper’s idea of bringing in a keynote speaker from ‘outside the box’ making it an unexpectedly fun event paid off she said. “The subject matter and presentation was perfect. Everyone was telling me how much they enjoyed it…. they were so focused you could hear a pin drop.” She found that atypical topics resonate with the club’s members because it often inspires new interests as it did this season. “We’re still getting kudos from our members,” she reports.
