The Georgia Jewelers Association (GJA) and Alabama Jewelers Association (AJA) have announced they will cohost their annual Convention on March 31- April 2. Now in its 9th year, the two state organizations will join forces at the Marriott Grand National Resort & Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Opelika, Alabama, a four star resort located an hour and half from the Atlanta airport.
Known for its educational sessions and extensive networking opportunities, this year’s convention presents carefully selected topics and presenters covering timely topics, as well as a newly created forum of mini focus groups to discuss top-of-mind issues such as The Edge, social media, CAD and in-store promotions. Led by experienced retailers, the mini groups foster peer-to-peer sharing of best practices and business ideas.
Mike Briant of Skydas Group International will speak on the “Best Security Practices – Have You had a Check Up Lately?” With more than 20 years of experience in US law enforcement, the private sector and military service, Mike is qualified and experienced to protect both public and private citizens in the US and around the globe.
Michael McTeigue will share his insight on “Operating a Profitable Estate Department.” Born into the McTeigue NY family business, Mike discusses the business side of estate jewelry, including buying and selling as well as valuations, buying vs. brokering and best practices.
In addition, this Convention is designated as a JA Idea Exchange event by Jewelers of America (JA). The JA Idea Exchange is a popular roundtable discussion, led by JA Director of Public Affairs and Education Susan Posnock, allowing attendees to share concerns and brainstorm solutions on key topics impacting day-to-day business.
Given the educational and networking opportunities, coupled with four-star accommodations replete with golfing options, this Convention is a high value event. Attendees pay only $135 for two, half-day educational sessions, four meals, hospitality suite access and plenty of networking opportunities. Employees, spouses and family are always welcome. Designated room rates begin at $149 per night.
Jewelry design contests, a golf tournament, scholarship winners announcement, live & silent auctions and a Texas Hold’em poker tournament (both to benefit Jewelers for Children) are a few of the additional fun things that the two states would love to share with anyone interested in attending.
