(JAIPUR, India) – Independent gem certification and appraisal institute, The International Gemological Institute (IGI), hosted the first west India IGI D-Show – a buyer-seller knowledge meet – at Jaipur’s Fairmont Hotel June 13-15. The event enabled more than 938 successful meetings between participating manufacturers and retailers.
With a history dating back to the days of manual processing of gems and jewelry two and a half centuries ago, this industry continues to be one of the leading markets in India – and over the last decade, the country has drawn significant attention from foreign markets. The vision of IGI’s D-Show, initiated by the Institute in 2012, is to holistically further the trade by offering an educational communication platform that brings together hundreds of retailers from West India, Rajasthan and beyond, enabling them to interact directly with manufacturers through a unique three-day gathering. Following successful workshops in Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore – covering north, south and east India – IGI hosted its fifth IGI D-Show in west India, in the beautiful “Pink City” of Jaipur.
The Jaipur D-Show received a fantastic response with pre-event registrations from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The workshop showcased jewelry by renowned jewelers and diamond manufacturers from all over India, and focused on one-on-one meetings for all participants. The event’s chief guest was Shri Navrattan Kothari, and highlights included a special seminar entitled, “Synthetic Diamonds – A Challenge & Detection of Non-traditional Treatments on Rubies, Sapphires and Emeralds” held June 13, as well as a gala the evening of June 14.
