The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) is pleased to announce that it will offer an intermediate level Workshop & Lab on Opals: A Playful Array of Colors, at the 5th Mediterranean Gemmological and Jewellery Conference in Cyprus on May 17, 2019.
This four hour workshop, presented by Gail Brett Levine, GIA GG and Travis Lejman, FGA, is based on Dr. Paul B. Downing’s system of identifying and grading opals. The preamble will be to get a base line down on opals. Types, formation, localities, treatments and properties on what to look for in grading and valuation will be covered as well as quality of different types of opal and pricing as discussed in Opal Identification & Value. The three hour hands-on portion will give the participants time to examine over 150 opal samples from around the world and of varying qualities – both natural and synthetic.
