Aim to meet potential partners, expand into international markets
The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT) is proactively entering the international market by joining the 64th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair – Thailand’s world-class gem and jewelry trade show – to offer a chance for local jewelry entrepreneurs from more than 10 provinces to showcase their products to international traders, while offering an on-site gem testing and verification service within 24 hours at the event, taking place from September 10 – 14 at Challenger Halls, Impact Muang Thong Thani.
Mrs. Duangkamol Jiambutr, GIT director, revealed that by attending the 64th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, GIT aims to promote consumers’ confidence in Thailand’s gem and jewelry products internationally as the institute is the key agency in the country offering gem and jewelry verification and certification services with world-class standards. GIT will offer an on-site gem and jewelry testing and certification service as well as provide consultations on human resources development in all areas through various courses such as marketing, gemology and workshops at special discounted prices. GIT will also display product prototypes developed under the Sustainable Capacity Development Project for Local Entrepreneurs (Gem and Jewelry Product) in 10 provinces and demonstrate its readiness for organizing the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2019 to be held in December 2019.
Moreover, the GIT will host a free academic seminar entitled “The Challenge of Gem and Jewelry Industry in the Disruptive Era” at the fair on Wednesday, September 12 at Jupiter 12, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok, to deliver interesting and useful knowledge for the gem and jewelry industry.
In order to drive and develop local Thai entrepreneurs to export to international markets, the Institute will display finished products from the Sustainable Capacity Development Project for Local Entrepreneurs (Gem and Jewelry Product), which is a key project running for the second consecutive year at the “GEM TREASURE” booth at Challenger Hall II, Impact Muang Thong Thani.
This year, GIT has continued to develop the capability of local entrepreneurs in 10 provinces, namely Chiang Mai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phuket, Tak, Phang Nga, Satun, Trat, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima and Phrae. Under this project, the institute organized many training programs on product design and quality development for local entrepreneurs, aimed at developing and promoting the sustainable growth of Thailand’s gem and jewelry industry from the local level in order to enable local brands to compete in the global market.
To meet this goal, entrepreneurs are encouraged to utilize and adapt the distinctive identities in each region to create jewelry that is more beautiful and contemporary, in order to enhance Thailand’s products to meet the international standard. Moreover, the institute has invited famous designers to help search for each local identity and create works together with local entrepreneurs so that the products can respond to current demands and can be adapted for daily use, while also serving the demand in the world market.
“The Institute hopes that this event will give local Thai entrepreneurs a chance to meet with foreign buyers, and offer them a platform to learn about the demand of customers directly, so that they will be able to further develop products to meet demand in the market, as well as explore opportunities in international market and seek international business partners,” said Mrs. Duangkamol.
In addition, the GIT is promoting Chanthaburi to become “the World’s City of Gems”, while also strengthening the capabilities of entrepreneurs and community enterprises in gems and jewelry in Chanthaburi and assisting them to expand their businesses in the global market. To serve this goal, the institute is scheduled to organize the “International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2019”, from December 4 to 8, 2019 at Chanthaburi. The festival will feature many interesting activities including a jewelry design contest, gemstone contest, and gem and jewelry research project contest.
For those who are interested, the GIT invites them to come explore gems and jewelry products developed from the wisdom of Thai craftsmanship at the GEMS TREASURE booth, Challenger Hall II, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani. Jewelers and the general public can submit samples of gems and jewelry for testing and certification at booths C2, 4, 6 and D1, 3, 5. Visitors are invited to booths B14, 16, 18, 20 and E13, 15, 17, 19 between September 10 to 14 for any enquiries on the “International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2019”.
