Seeking contestants for CAD competition to be held March 7, 2020

(ATLANTA) – The Atlanta Jewelry Show (AJS) is seeking applicants to compete in the CAD/CAM Challenge to be held March 7, 2020 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in conjunction with the Spring edition of the March 7 – 9 Show.

AJS JoelJoel McFadden (l) and Kyle Bullock will return as emcees of the Atlanta Jewelry Show CAD Challenge.

Taking place on the floor of the Atlanta Jewelry Show, this competition highlights the expertise and craftsmanship required to turn basic ideas into brilliant finished pieces. With overhead monitors giving the audience an up-close view of the action at each workstation, as well as industry veterans Joel McFadden and Kyle Bullock returning as emcees, these competitions are interactive and informative, and a must-see at the show. Special guest, designer Rémy Rotenier, will add his designer perspective to the CAD process. Additionally, the excitement is heightened as the CAD Challenge will be live-streamed via Facebook.

Contestants will be selected based on their education, experience and past work. Bench jewelers interested in participating may access the online application at the AJS website, https://www.atlantajewelryshow.com/the-show/cad-cam-challenge/.  Applications must be received prior to November 18 for consideration.

A total of three contestants will be selected for the CAD Challenge. Each will receive round-trip airfare to The Atlanta Jewelry Show and hotel accommodations (two-nights) at the show hotel.

CAD Challenge Details

CAD 1: Saturday, March 7, 10:15 am – 1:15 pm

CAD 2: Saturday, March 7, 2:15 pm – 5:15 pm

On Saturday, March 7, the three contestants will fire up their computers for two tests of their ability to design jewelry using CAD.

The first challenge will consist of competitors taking a hand-rendered jewelry design by Rémy Rotenier and creating a CAD rendering of the hand rendering. The second challenge will be designed to have each CAD artist show off their design style. The design work is judged on creativity, presentation, sales skills and how well the final designs meet the requirements.

AJS RemyDesigner Rémy Rotenier will provide a hand rendering from which contestants will work.

The overall winner of the competition will be determined by selected judges. A second award, “People’s Choice”, will be determined by votes from the audience and combined with votes from the live-streamed Facebook audience.
