Jewelers for Children adds five to Board of Directors

(NEW YORK) - Jewelers for Children (JFC), the jewelry industry’s charity, is pleased to announce the election of five new directors. Patrick Drummond of Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, Dan Mawicke of Richemont North America, Carol Pennelli of David Yurman, Sushil Goyal of 925 Sterling, and Bobby Wilkerson of Wilkerson and Associates were unanimously elected to the board at a meeting held on January 9, 2010.

I.B. Goodman tabs Winokur as new VP of Sales, Independent Division

(NEWPORT, Ky.) - Greg Winokur has joined the I.B. Goodman Company as the new Vice President of Sales for the Independent Jewelers Division, effective immediately, company President Jonathan Goodman Cohen announced.

Winokur has over 30 years experience in operations, sales and marketing management in the fine jewelry industry, serving as a VP of Operations for Sterling Jewelers, COO of Four Points Corp, Executive VP of Sales and Marketing for Blitz Mfg. and Regional Sales Manager for Simon Golub & Sons, Inc. His background in the retail jewelry world began at the age of 14 and even led to ownership of a jewelry store in La Jolla, CA.

GIA honors John Koivula with the Richard T. Liddicoat Award for Distinguished Achievement

(CARLSBAD, Calif.) – The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has honored John Koivula, Chief Research Gemologist with the Richard T. Liddicoat Award for Distinguished Achievement, the highest tribute the Institute can bestow upon an individual.

GIA President and Chief Executive Officer Donna Baker presented the special honor to Koivula during a surprise ceremony on Dec. 17 at the Institute’s world headquarters in Carlsbad.

JFC to honor Sterling’s Ed Hrabak and Jonathan Goldman of Frederick Goldman

Jewelers for Children (JFC), the industry’s charity, will honor Ed Hrabak of Sterling, Inc. and Jonathan Goldman of Frederick Goldman at the annual Facets of Hope event Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.  The event, culminating JFC’s fund raising efforts for the year and celebrating the second annual JFC Children’s Day, attracts more than 1,000 industry guests during the JCK Show.   Both Hrabak and Goldman have generously agreed to serve as guests of honor at the event with the responsibility of assisting JFC in raising funds to benefit children who are the victims of catastrophic illness or life-threatening abuse and neglect.  Each year, prominent industry leaders are honored by the charity.

Southern/Mid-America Jewelry News hires new office manager

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - Newsmith, Inc., publisher of Southern Jewelry News and Mid-America Jewelry News, is pleased to announce they have hired Martha Osswald as office manager.

A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Martha graduated from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 2005. She previously worked for the Guilford County (NC) School system working with youth requiring individual assistance.
