Anti-money laundering laws in foreign countries

(NEW YORK) - The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) has compiled a list of countries that have laws in place to prevent money laundering in the jewelry industry. That list is now available on its website - jvclegal.org.

The United States government generally exempts jewelry retailers from the obligation of implementing anti-money laundering (AML) programs, even if the retailers otherwise qualify as “dealers” in “covered goods.” One exception to this general exemption is if the retailer acquires covered goods from foreign countries, in which case the retailer must institute an AML program that assigns a risk level to those transactions.

Following their initial introduction of the “Gates,” and its subsequent success, The Cargo Hold owners felt a need to protect the unique concept. A registered trademark will enable them to expand the Collection with new styles and offer a distinguished and exclusive product - essentially a brand name - to their customers.

An argument for an armed defense

I recently had a conversation with a married couple in the store to look for an anniversary ring. He had seen our store listed on the website for a group called Ohioans for Concealed Carry (OFCC). The OFCC website has a “Do Not Patronize While Armed” list providing information on businesses that do not allow customers to carry on the premises. They also publish a “Safe Alternatives” list showing those businesses which welcome CHL (Concealed Handgun License) holders. I am an active participant on their forums and use their website to keep up on legislative and legal matters regarding concealed carry in Ohio. I have a Concealed Handgun License and my store is on the Safe Alternatives list. I welcome those who are upstanding, law-abiding citizens.
