Mr. Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), and Mr. Sumeth Prasongpongchai, Director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), jointly announced the 67th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair (BGJF) is set to take place September 7-11, 2022 at Challenger Hall 1-3, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok, Thailand. The fair, the first full-scale physical event after almost two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be attended by over 800 exhibitors and include over 1,800 booths. At least 10,000 visitors are expected.
The 67th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair presents a great opportunity for entrepreneurs and those in the gems and jewelry industry from across the world to reconnect and expand business opportunities after the COVID-19 pandemic. In this event, buyers and importers will meet over 800 leading manufacturers, distributors and exporters from Thailand and other countries from across the world, with products covering all ranges of gems and jewelry products – from gemstones, gold and silver jewelry to packaging, equipment, tools and machinery.
“While the gems and jewelry sector faced challenges from all sides over the past two years, now that the COVID-19 situation has improved and restrictions on international travel have eased, we are back to business as usual,” said DITP Director General, Mr. Phusit. “We hope the 67th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair will contribute to the export of Thai gems and jewelry products and secure Thailand’s place as a global hub of gem and jewelry trade.”
During the first and second quarters this year, exports of gems and jewelry products (excluding gold that has not been made into ornaments) amounted to US $3,884.21 million, an increase of 40.96% from the same period in 2021. Exports are expected to surge further in the remainder of this year, in line with growing demand due to the reopening of borders and resumption of economic activity in major trading partners. Total exports for the entire year are expected to amount to US $7,392.49 million, an increase of 20%.
Mr. Sumeth Prasongpongchai, GIT Director, said that this fair is more special than the previous ones as DITP has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with GIT to co-organize the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair. To ensure success of the event, both organizations have pledged to employ their strengths, networks, and allies to promote it and invite prominent figures in the industry to participate. He assures that the fair will return to its former splendor and be worth the two-year wait.
There will also be a host of interesting exhibitions and activities at the fair. These include: The Jewel Wonders, an exhibition of highlights from up-and-coming exhibitors and jewelry trends; The Jewellers, which showcases works of new jewelry designers; and The New Faces, which presents the jewelry works from leading small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) from all over Thailand. Additionally, there will be discussion panels on various topics led by experts, jewelry-making demonstrations by artisans and other fun workshops throughout the five days of the fair.
The 67th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair is scheduled to be held on September 7-11, 2022. Business negotiations will take place September 7-9 and the event will be open to the public on September 10-11 at Impact Muang Thong Thani.
