March 2011 Atlanta Jewelry Show gives independent retailers something to talk about

February 2, 2011
Reading Time: 9 minutes

(ATLANTA) – Jewelers are talking about the semi-annual Atlanta Jewelry Show – and with good reason.  From the unsurpassed SJTA U educational series to the popular SJTA Rewards program to free gas, free breakfast and a terrific buyer gala, there is no show in the industry that does more for its attendees than this one.

Returning to the Cobb Galleria Centre from March 5-7, 2011, the spring Atlanta Jewelry Show gives retailers even more to talk about with new initiatives and features like the first annual Torch Awards Design Competition, a Motown-themed Gala, and more product resources to explore than ever before.

“Communication is key to the continued growth and success of the Atlanta Jewelry Show,” says Carol Young, executive director, Southern Jewelry Travelers Association (SJTA), producers of the Atlanta Jewelry Show.  “Our relationship with independent jewelers is our backbone and we’re always looking for ways to help them grow their businesses.   So we talk regularly with jewelers, and their feedback guides us in bringing together the best possible combination of services, products and business development opportunities.  We think they’ll like what they see when they arrive for the March 2011 Show.”

Spring 2011 highlights

Scott “Nametag Guy” Ginsberg headlines SJTA U Seminar Series

Meet Scott Ginsberg anytime, anywhere, and he will be wearing his trademark nametag.  For the past 10 years, Scott has never been without it, because for him the nametag is a metaphor for “approachability.” In this era of engagement, Scott recognizes that a nametag is a wonderful tool for interaction.  It makes it easy for people to come to you.

Headlining the Spring Atlanta Jewelry Show line-up, Ginsberg will lead the SJTA U Keynote Presentation, “Make A Name For Yourself,” on Sunday, March 6 from 9-10:30 am.  As an “approachability expert,” Scott has turned approachability into a science and has been featured in countless media outlets, including 20/20, CNN, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal. During his entertaining and insightful presentation, Ginsberg will teach retailers daily practices about branding, consistency and commitment to help them not only make a name for  themselves, but also how to take their name to the bank too! Other programs will touch on a wide range of topics including appraisals, visual merchandising strategies, stone setting tips, eliminating old inventory, starting and developing an estate business and more.

In addition, the full-scale program makes it even easier for retailers to obtain SJTA Certified Jeweler Status – a designation that lets area customers know that a store is truly committed to ongoing education and quality customer service.  To achieve SJTA Certified Jeweler status, retailers must attend two Atlanta Jewelry Shows per year and at least two seminars during each show, for a total of four seminars a year.  To maintain status, the retailer must then attend one Atlanta Jewelry Show per year and a minimum of two seminars a year.

First Annual Torch Awards

Design Competition

To showcase  the design talents of bench jewelers/designers across the nation, the Atlanta Jewelry Show has launched the first annual Torch Awards Design Competition.  All state jewelry associations are invited to participate by submitting the winners of their own 2010 state-wide design competitions.  Entries will be on display during the March 2011 Atlanta Jewelry Show and attending buyers will vote for the Best of Show winner.

First-time exhibitors,

new introductions

Walking the show floor, retailers will be able to see the newest introductions and popular best-sellers in nearly 500 booths covering virtually every product category, including antique jewelry, bridal, charms, designer jewelry, diamonds, earrings, gold, pearls, platinum, sterling jewelry, tools, watches and much more.  In addition, the Spring Show will welcome a number of first-time exhibitors who will bring even more new resources to the selection.  Retailers can also get a first-hand look at a wide array of cutting edge designs in the special Point of View: A Designer Gallery section of the show.

Complimentary Buyer

Breakfast each morning

Buyers can gear up for a busy buying day by enjoying a light continental breakfast served in the registration concourse area.

New Exhibitor Meet & Greet

On Sunday, March 6 at 9:30 a.m. jewelers are invited to meet the Atlanta Jewelry Show’s newest members and learn about their products at the New Exhibitor Meet & Greet during Sunday’s complimentary buyer breakfast.  Attendees will see and hear first-hand what’s new at the show to ensure that they are their area’s first to get the newest, best-selling products into their store cases.

SJTA Rewards help buyers

rack up Reward Points on

every order written at Show

Buyers can earn valuable SJTA Reward points for simply placing orders for their best sellers, required stock items, and other store necessities during the Spring Atlanta Show, and then redeem them for hotel and travel packages, electronics, personal accessories, home goods and more. At any time during the event, buyers need only bring copies of orders placed during the show to the SJTA Rewards desk where the representative will deposit the corresponding Rewards points into their rewards account.  After the show, retailers can visit the program’s online catalog to see the all the items they can order.

Atlanta’s Elite Buyer’s Club

Retailers who have earned 15,000 SJTA Reward points or more at any one of the past three shows are automatically enrolled in the Elite Buyers Club – the exclusive club of Atlanta VIP buyers.   As a member, they receive special badges signifying VIP Status; access to an exclusive registration counter just for Club Elite Members; and entry into the exclusive, member-only Club Elite lounge.  As an added bonus, Club members will also have the opportunity to enjoy a special presentation by Scott Ginsberg entitled “The Approachable Retailer.”  To find out if you qualify for  Club entry, buyers can call SJTA at 800-241-0399 or e-mail fstrauss@atlantajewelryshow.com.

“Tanks on Us” rewards

pre-registered retailers with

free gas card

Another reward for retailers, this popular program returns to thank retailers who pre-register and attend the March Atlanta Jewelry Show.  All retailers who pre-register receive a special coupon by mail that can be redeemed for a complimentary gas card when they arrive at the show’s registration desk. Register online at www.atlantajewelryshow.com.

Travel Discounts

SJTA has arranged for deep discounts at area hotels, which can be obtained by calling the show’s host hotels directly.  Attendees can find the list and direct links to the hotels, rates and group codes to reference for discounts on the Atlanta Jewelry Show website – www.atlantajewelryshow.com.  When calling, attendees should tell the reservations representative that they’re attending the SJTA Atlanta Jewelry Show to take advantage of the special show rates.

Motown in the ATL

Sunday, March 6, 6-8 p.m.

Don’t wait until you’ve “Heard It Through the Grapevine.” Say, “I’ll Be There” for what promises to be one of the Atlanta Jewelry Show’s best Galas yet.  Diana Ross and the Supremes…The Temptations…The Jackson 5… Buyers and exhibitors are invited to celebrate the music and downtown style of Detroit’s Motown Records on Sunday, March 6 from 6-8 pm.  Come eat, drink and get down on the dance floor as the Atlanta Jewelry Show’s special musicians recreate that famed Motown sound.
