IGI launches series of environmentally friendly Diamond & Gemstone Grading Reports

(NEW YORK) – The International Gemological Institute (IGI) announced it is expanding its Eco Series Reports to provide assurance the gemstones and fine jewelry described on the environmentally-friendly reports are ethically sourced and the precious metals are made from recycled materials.

Initiated in 2008, the Eco Report Series has offered IGI clients conservational grading reports using recycled and biodegradable paper and soy and water-based inks. Now, IGI is taking it a step further by including an Attestation of Origin for each item described on an Eco Report, ensuring the items submitted to IGI are in full compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, the Clean Diamond Trade Act and the USA Patriot Act, and that metals are made from recycled materials.

“We at IGI understand the necessity to provide consumers luxury products without sacrificing sustainability,” said Jerry Ehrenwald, IGI president and CEO. “The Eco Series Reports give jewelers a way to show consumers their ecological commitment and offer a means to distinguish environmentally-friendly fine jewelry products, while still making certain they receive quality jewelry graded by a respected, independent gemological laboratory.”
