Joining the Denver gem shows for its second year, Columbia Gem House will debut three new gem varieties to those attending the events. Pomme Ruby from Madagascar, Rainbow Lattice Sunstone from Australia, and Eclipsite from Australia. Each variety responsibly brought to market following Columbia Gem House’s Fair Trade Gems® Principles & Protocols.
Pomme Ruby
A new Ruby from Madagascar called Pomme Ruby. The name Pomme Ruby, ‘pomme’ meaning apple in French as well as the root word for apple in Malagasy. This material was given its name because the community in which it is found consists of apple and rice farms. When not farming, the villagers dig for these rubies. Showcasing a vibrant red apple color with deep complex tones you don’t typically see, this gem holds its color even in small cut stones.
Pomme ruby is currently available in limited quantities but anticipated to become an inline product for Columbia Gem House. Current shapes available include rounds, ovals, cushions and emerald cuts.
Rainbow Lattice Sunstone
This variety of Sunstone is a type of orthoclase feldspar and reveals lattice-patterned crystals throughout the gem. A rainbow of long streaks of hematite combined with small magnetite triangle inclusions, this material is as unique as individual snowflake patterns. With a sunstone effect, this variety has an overall orange-to-brown glow, further enhancing its rainbow bursts of color. Available in a variety of sizes and shapes, ranging from hexagon tablets to cabs.
Eclipsite
A hybrid of sorts, Eclipsite is a natural blend of Moonstone and Sunstone and is only found in one location worldwide – Australia. This material is a close relative to the above Rainbow Lattice Sunstone, but differs slightly in that it presents more adularescence, flashing a metallic iridescence in addition to the golden hematite platelets. Currently available in a variety of cabochon shapes, Columbia Gem House will debut its very first cutting parcel in Denver.
