(COLLEGE CORNER, Ohio) – Ethical Metalsmiths (EM) has announced the debut of The Source, an online destination for news about responsible jewelry practices and ethical gemstone sourcing. The Source consists of a group of writers, jewelers, gemologists and educators who have joined forces to publish valuable content written through the lens of EM.
The Source has four editorial sections:
- Illuminators: Conversations with Changemakers
- Of The Earth
- Findings: Responsible Studio Practices
- Education: A Resource for Students and Educators
Each article goes through three different review stages. First, the article is reviewed by the Editor in Chief for grammar, syntax and clarity. Next, the article is assigned to an EM-member Peer Reviewer who reviews the article for content through the lens of EM’s mission of responsible jewelry through education and community. Finally, the article makes it to the Ethics review stage where a team of EM blog team members, including members of the Executive Committee of EM’s Board of Directors, makes sure the article is correct in terms of ethical considerations.
About Ethical Metalsmiths
Ethical Metalsmith founded in 2004, is a member-based nonprofit dedicated to ethical responsibility in the jewelry industry. Students, educators, jewelers, retailers and buyers use the platform to learn about and pursue responsible practices and sourcing. The nonprofit envisions a jewelry industry where a beautiful product does not bear a human or environmental toll. Ethical Metalsmiths created the Radical Jewelry Makeover – a collaborative effort between makers and the marketplace to share awareness of recycled metals and gemstones. By hosting events for jewelers, designers and corporations, Ethical Metalsmiths promotes responsible industry methods and to eliminate embedded hazardous practices. EM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and membership is open to all, whether one is a “metalsmith” or not.
