When Michou Jewelry founder Michele Sonner thinks back, the seeds of a relationship began over a decade ago, when Michou unveiled the first pieces in its One-of-a-Kind collection.
Michou Jewelry has always been a gem-focused line, thanks to Sonner’s early training as a gemologist, which instilled a deep love for the interplay of light and color reflected in gemstones.
In her travels to the Tucson Gem Show every February, Sonner focuses solely on buying stones for her collections. In 2003, she found herself tempted with a small lot of stones that – while not enough for an entire collection – were just too interesting and unique to pass up. Sonner took advantage of the situation to create a few special, one-of-a-kind designs that became instantly popular. Over the years, customers craved more and more of Sonner’s one-of-a-kind designs, enough that Sonner now buys stones specifically for Michou’s ongoing One-of-a-Kind collection.
“With handmade jewelry, the road from inspiration to manifestation can take a while,” says Sonner. “So these one-of-a-kind designs are really fun for me because I can bring these single pieces to life in a much shorter period of time.”
In 2006 Michou unveiled Poseidon’s Treasures which became a perennial hit known for its diminutive depictions of sea life set among gorgeous stones within beautiful earrings, necklaces and cuffs.
Poseidon’s Treasures and Michou’s One-of-a-Kind collections walked down separate paths for many years. But recently loyal One-of-a-Kind customers began requesting pieces themed with elements from Poseidon’s Treasures.
Michou responded, and is happy to announce that Poseidon-themed pieces can now be found within its One-of-a-Kind collection. Each One-of-a-Kind piece contains delightful sea life components, but also features stones and other variations that are not found in the regular Poseidon’s Treasures.
The first offering from the combined collections is a One-of-a-Kind piece featuring a single nautilus shell pendant sitting atop a bold green amethyst. 22K gold vermeil granulation accents tiny details in both the shell and diminutive silver sea horse below, each moving on independent hinges. MSRP: $270
Michou’s second One-of-a-Kind pendant features a Poseidon starfish and ribbed cantharus shell presiding over a generous larimar stone, captured within a silver rope accented with 22K gold vermeil granulation. MSRP: $495
Both will be on view at the JCK Las Vegas Show, #B22170 in the Now Next Pavilion.
