The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) has launched a new flagship report –
Natural Diamond Trends: A 2024 Overview, unveiling trends and US consumer preferences regarding natural diamonds.
The NDC partnered with trend analytics company, Tenoris, looking at data collected from over 2,000 independently owned jewelry stores across the United States relating to natural diamond jewelry sales.
The in-depth analysis details the latest trends and consumer preferences when it comes to purchasing natural diamonds, including the most popular shapes, preferred clarity and color, as well as sought-after sizes and types of jewelry. It is the first of its kind to use authoritative data to explain consumer habits in the US diamond market
Key Highlights of the Diamond Trends Report:
- The 4Cs: The report breaks down the 4Cs and the purchasing trends behind each measure of the grading scale, looking at the most popular diamond shapes, color trends as well as the most popular clarity grades and carat weights.
- Round diamonds remain the mainstay of the market, accounting for 82% of the center stones in natural diamond jewelry in 2024. At the same time, more consumers are choosing to express their individuality through fancy shapes, particularly elongated silhouettes like oval diamonds, which extend the look and elegance of the hand.
- VS-clarity diamonds are gaining in popularity, whereas SI diamonds have long been the sweet spot for the American consumer.
- Consumers are gradually moving out of the 1-carat comfort zone, opting for larger diamonds for center stones.

The report discusses the most common engagement ring sizes and styles along with celebrity influence behind what is trending in the bridal category
- Natural Diamond Shopping Trends of 2024: Consumers still prize natural diamonds for their unique and timeless status as an emotional gift to celebrate life’s milestones. The report dives into seasonality of sales, price trends since 2020, and the power of the customer looking to self-purchase.
