(NEW YORK) – The Plumb Club’s new comprehensive 2025 research document underscores that the jewelry category remains strong this year from a consumer desire standpoint. However, the survey also reveals that before, making a final purchase decision, there are a number of trigger elements that are becoming more important to sale completion.
- 88% of consumers surveyed say they usually buy between 1 – 3 jewelry items over the course of a year. However, with inflation and the rising cost of goods, 31% of consumers (an increase of +2% over the previous survey) said they will wait for special deals, discounts or promotions.
- Increasingly, consumers are viewing ethical sourcing, fair trade labor and origin traceability with importance. 31% of consumers (an increase of +7% over 2023) view ethical sourcing as important, 30% (an increase of +7% over 2023) view fair trade labor as important, and 30% (an increase of +8% over 2023) view origin traceability as important. Almost half say they would pay a lot more or great deal more for these traits.
- 78% of consumers say that knowing more about the store or brands responsible business practices would directly influence their purchase decision, with 41% (an increase of +4%) saying that, if unable to verify that a piece was responsibly sourced, it would be unlikely they would make the purchase.

The insights shared here are part of a multi-faceted research study initiated by The Plumb Club with the assistance of Paola Deluca, The Futurist, and Qualtrics, a world-renowned survey and analytics firm. The study was conducted with a sampling of over 2,000 men and women from the ages of 25 – 60 with a balanced demographic and psychographic mix across the US with the goal of understanding how individuals engage with jewelry. Respondents had all attended some college or higher and had a combined household income of at least $75K/year. Additional information from this expansive research will be shared over the next several weeks.

The research document will be shared in its entirety during the 2025 JCK Las Vegas Show with a presentation on Saturday, June 7 at 12 noon PDT on the Showcase Stage.
