A former chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), a position he held from 2008 to 2010 after two terms as vice chairman, Mehta represented the Indian industry at CIBJO. “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Vasant, who was both a good friend and valued associate,” said CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri. “While a prominent businessman in his own right, he was first and foremost a servant of the industry, in India, of course, but globally as well, where, in his quiet and dignified manner, he devoted much of his time working to the benefit of us all.
